Appearing alongside the new Moto Z series at Lenovo TechWorld today, there’s a lot to like about Moto Mods. Motorola’s modular future has arrived and it’s called Moto Mods. We’ll be interested to see just how snug the fit is though, considering the magnets on the back of the Moto Z are right at the bottom edge. For the Moto Z they are also available in real wood and leather and their slightly thick build means the Moto Z camera bump won’t be quite as noticeable. Moto Style Shells are simply replaceable back covers with a variety of different colors, designs and textures. It’s just a shame they couldn’t have squeezed in enough battery to get you through a full movie. Following the same form factor as the other Moto Mods, the Insta-Share Projector includes a built-in battery for an hour of projecting time, a kickstand and 70-inch field of view. This is where the Moto Insta-Share Projector comes in. It’s pretty safe to say that built-in smartphone projectors haven’t exactly taken off but they are still a cool accessory to have. It also adds wireless charging capabilities to the Moto Z and while it’s bulky, it isn’t as ugly as most battery cases we’ve seen (note that this isn’t a case though, so the Moto Z’s edges aren’t protected). The Incipio Off-Grid Power Pack snaps into place and, using the Moto Z’s 16-pin connectors, adds an impressive 22 hours of additional battery life. It also has a nifty kickstand so you can prop it up and get a comfy multimedia experience in bed or on the move.Ī bulky external battery isn’t anything new, but this is definitely a new way to make it work. It even packs it’s won battery so you can get up to 10 hours of playback without draining your phone’s internal battery. It’s a very simple idea: a speaker attachment for your Moto Z that snaps on and turns the back of your phone into a huge speaker. The handset will also be available unlocked in the country from the fall. This is my favorite Moto Mod so far. The Moto Z Force will be available exclusively through Verizon as the Moto Z Force Droid in summer. Lastly, Motorola has teamed up with Incipio to create the offGRID Power Pack Mod that increases the battery life of the handset by an additional 22 hours. The speaker helps in improving the sound quality and audio experience from the phone, and it even comes with a built-in kickstand. The second Mod is from JBL dubbed the SoundBoost. It comes with its own built-in battery so as to not drain the battery of the handset. The first one is an Insta-Share projector that turns your phone into a projector. The Z Force also features Moto Mods support that allows the handsets functionality to be increased with the use of Mods. Motorola showed off three different Mods at the event. The front of the phone houses a 5MP f/2.2 aperture shooter with large 1.4um pixels. Motorola’s new camera app comes with features like Best Shot, Auto Night mode, and a Professional mode. The rear of the Z Force features a 21MP shooter with an f/1.8 aperture, OIS, PDAF, and LaserAF. The 6.99mm thin phone features water repellent nano-coating, a USB Type-C port for headphones, data, and charging, NFC, Wi-Fi b/g/n/ac with MIMO, and Bluetooth 4.1. Under the hood, the Moto Z Force features a 5.5-inch Quad HD screen, a Snapdragon 820 chipset, 4GB RAM, 32/64GB of speedy UFS storage, and a microSD card slot. And only 15mins on the charger is enough to make the phone last for 15 additional hours. Motorola also claims that the handset features the world’s fastest charging mechanism, dubbed TurboPower, that is capable of charging the handset’s 3500mAh battery to 50% in less than 30 mins. The Moto Z Force sports similar internals as the Moto Z, but comes with a beefier battery, a higher resolution camera, and ShatterShield that ensures the handset’s screen is shatterproof. While the Moto X Force featured a ShatterProof display, the Moto Z Successor to the Moto X Force, the handset feature a slim profile just like the Moto Z and come with upgraded internals. In addition to the Moto Z, Motorola also launched the Moto Z Force today.
